A Prayer for Peace
I lay here tonight heartbroken over that tragedy in Boston. Though I knew no one that was there, I find myself grieving with those that lost loved ones, crying with those that experienced this horrific act, and questioning why these things continue to happen. My heart aches.
I know that ours is not to question, but my human nature takes over and I cannot help myself. My loving and grace-filled father, why? Why a child? Why today? Why here? Why now? I know that some things happen not because they are your plan, but because it is not your will to stop them from happening. But it doesn't make sense in my meager mind. My mind dwells on the pain and the sorrow, I know. While your infinite wisdom can take in the whole grand picture. But my small piece of the puzzle is blurry and confused.
So what is a girl to do on a day when nothing makes sense? Pray! Not because that is all I can do, but because it is everything.
' I ask you my gracious and loving father to step closer today. Let me lean into your eternal wisdom and find sanctuary. Wrap me in your arms as I weep for innocence lost, for terror unleashed and doubt that runs rampant. I pray for the families that are grieving lord. They are living in the shadows of love lost. Let your light shine on them as they mourn. I ask you to guard those that have seen the face of terror up close. Their questions will come fast and furious. Let them find answers in you. And for a country that watches and wonders, let us find peace in your promises. You have told us to be 'joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer' (Romans 12:12). So we lean into that today lord. We will pray that your words resound within us and that with patience and prayer, our joy will return. May your peace fill us with each breath. In your loving name we pray!'
